Hey guys! Welcome to Tumblr Trends!
First, a little bit about me. My name is Krysta Larson and I’m a sophomore college student at Creighton University. I just declared my majors, which are English and journalism. Recently I discovered a passion for exploring the use of social media in communication today, particularly through advertising. Some of my interests include writing essays, participating in Relay for Life (through the American Cancer Society), watching nerdy TV shows, and reading every Stephen King novel I can get my hands on.
I’m starting this blog because I’m interested in exploring how Tumblr differs from other popular social networks. I’ll look at different trends that occur, such as the creation and theft of fanart, social justice blogging and bullying, discussion of political topics, and recurring memes, among other subjects. This October will mark the end of my second year on Tumblr, so I feel I have a lot of information about the different trends I’ve noticed. I’ll also discuss some differences I see between Tumblr and other social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
I’ll be posting screenshots of Tumblr posts on my own dashboard and censoring the foul language–Tumblr users are worse than sailors. I’ll share media that I see which relate to the week’s topic, and hopefully get some Tumblr users to comment and share their own Tumblr-related stories. Feel free to give me ideas about a Tumblr trend I could investigate!
